One apple as a symbol of Åland seasons 12.8.2016.

My friend Ella gave me this FDC with the pretty Aland stamp. Thank you Ella.

Apple tree is a symbol of four seasonal changes that is why this fruit has appeared on a new original stamp by Åland Post that is being introduced as the part of 2016 Sepac stamp issue on the joint theme seasons. The creative graphic designer who has chosen to illustrate the seasons from the perspective of an apple is Annika Zetterqvist.
The Åland climate is particularly favourable for cultivating apples. Influenced by the surrounding sea, it has a relatively mild winter and a rather late spring, which minimises the risk of frost damage during flowering. The apple trees are at their most beautiful in May and June.
Graphic designer Annika Zetterqvist’s idea behind the 2016 motif may be summarised by the words “germinate, blossom, ripen and enjoy”, four words that appear in both the first day cancel, on the stamp sheet and on the first day cover.
