The Sinking of RMS Titanic

Today I am reminded of that unforgettable tragedy at sea more than a hundred years ago -The sinking of the RMS Titanic which occurred on the night of 14 April through to the morning of 15 April 1912 when she sank in the north Atlantic Ocean, four days into the ship's maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. The largest passenger liner in service at the time, Titanic had an estimated 2,224 people on board when she struck an iceberg at around 23:40 (ship's time) on Sunday, 14 April 1912. Her sinking two hours and forty minutes later at 02:20 (05:18 GMT) on Monday, 15 April resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 people, which made it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.

Remembering Those who were lost at sea on the night of 14th/15 April 1912

Aland issued this stamp and FDC  on 16.4.2012 to remember and to honour three of her citizens who lost their lives on 15.4.1912 along with the Titanic. My dear friend Pia sent me this FDC.

The Terrible Titanic Tragedy.

These two mini sheets of Stamps were issued by St Tome e Principe in April 1998, to pay tribute to those who were lost in the North Atlantic in the tragedy of RMS Titanic. They were given to me by my friend Merja.

A wonderful ship that sank on its maiden trans Atlantic voyage. Reams and reams have been written on this tragedy. So, I'll spare you from it once again. However, those of you who do want to know a bit more may like to visit my blog http://mypicturepostcards.blogspot.in/ and read my post dated 15.4.2012 on the Terrible Titanic Tragedy.
