Carl
Schurz (1829–1906), a
German-born U.S. senator during his speech on April 18, 1859, at Boston,
Massachusetts said:
“Ideals are like stars; you will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them you will reach your destiny”.
It
was to celebrate this seafaring tradition that the USPS in 1975 issued this
embossed 10c Seafaring Tradition Bicentennial Era Envelope.
Thank
you Merja.
