In 1981 (35 countries ; 69 stamps) the
theme of EUROPA stamps was folklore and feasts.
That was also the year when for the first time the Azores and Madeira issued
Europa stamps under their own name. These
Faroese stamps and the
cover depict the traditional Faroese Dance Bandadansur - a living mediaeval
heritage without comparison in Europe. The Faroese dance is a living mediaeval heritage
without comparison in Europe. It is very common among young people. At village
festivals many of the dancers wear the Faroese costume.
My dear friend Merja gave me this nice FDC.
